Senior Scientist at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg

Lars Ullrich received the M.Sc. degree in mechatronics in 2022 and the Ph.D. (Dr.-Ing.) degree in 2025 from Friedrich–Alexander–Universität Erlangen–Nürnberg, Germany. His research addresses probabilistic trajectory planning for autonomous driving under uncertainty, with the objective of ensuring safety and reliability in dynamic environments. He introduced the iterative-data-based V-Model, refined modern development and assurance processes for AI-based systems, advances Data Control as a first-class safety perspective for AI-based systems, and analyzes the evolution of system stacks of real-world autonomy systems under AI-driven disruption. These activities converge in his current research on safe physical AI. Since early 2025, he has been elected Vice-Chair of the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society German Chapter.
